Prof. G S Prasad, Director (Research and Development), MNR University.
Before joining MNR University, Prof. Prasad worked as Director of the Centre for Research, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (RITE), at the University of Hyderabad, and coordinated the Research and innovation activities at the University. He was also the Director of ASPIRE (Association for Scientific Pursuits for Innovative Research Enterprises) a section-8 not-for-profit organization that guides the incubation and entrepreneurship activities at University of Hyderabad.
He headed the University of Hyderabad’s vibrant innovation ecosystem that has 3 incubation centres viz. Technology Business Incubator (TBI), Technology incubation and Development of Entrepreneurship (TIDE) and Bio-incubators Nurturing Entrepreneurship for Scaling Technologies (BioNEST) which together nurture 60 startups.
Before joining the University of Hyderabad, he was a Chief Scientist at CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh. He was Head of Microbial Type Culture Collection and Gene Bank (MTCC), India’s National Microbial Resource Centre and transformed it into a leading microbial resource centre that can be compared with the best Microbial Resource centres in the World.
He was also coordinator of MTCC International Depositary Authority (IDA) under World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He works in the areas of microbial diversity and industrial applications of yeasts.
He has more than 90 research publications and 10 patents (US, European and Indian). He was a member of the Executive Board, World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) and was country Representative of Asian Consortium for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Microbial Resources (ACM).
He was a Visiting Scientist at the RIKEN (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), Japan and the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) Germany.
