Bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility in India usually means a pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, an aggregate of 45–50%, and a minimum age of 17 years at admission. NEET is generally not required. After the degree, graduates work across fifteen distinct career paths, from hospital wards and sports teams to home care, teaching and tele-rehabilitation.

Stepping into the field of physiotherapy sounds good, and the curiosity pertaining to the future and career possibilities hovers in the mind of aspirants.

A boy of nineteen is carried into a clinic after a bike accident. His knee will not bend. The surgeon has done the surgery. The medicines are finished. What remains is six months of slow, careful work with one person, three times a week, until he walks without thinking about it again.

That person is a physiotherapist. No prescription pad, no operating theatre, and often no thanks from anyone except the patient and his mother.

Many parents and students still believe that physiotherapy is what a student picks when the NEET score does not arrive. The situation has changed considerably over the last few years. India has roughly 0.6 physiotherapists for every 10,000 people, against a World Health Organization minimum of 1.0. The United States has about 7.2. That gap is the whole story of this career.

This article answers the eligibility question first, then maps out fifteen paths a graduate can actually take.

What is the bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility in India for 2026?

The rules are simpler than most families expect.

Does bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility change from one college to another?

Yes, in small ways, and those small ways decide admissions. Some universities accept MPC students alongside BiPC. Some set the age cut-off at 31 December of the admission year. Some run their own entrance test, while others take state counselling only.

Table 2: How entry rules differ across Hyderabad

One point worth noting. Physiotherapy now sits under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, passed by Parliament on 24 March 2021. Physiotherapy is one of the ten recognised professional categories under that Act, with a Physiotherapy Professional Council of its own. A healthcare professional degree under the Act must run for at least 3,600 hours over three to six years, which is why a proper BPT cannot be compressed into a short course.

What documents does a student keep ready?

Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, the transfer certificate, a study or bonafide certificate, caste and income certificates where they apply, the entrance scorecard if one was written, passport photographs, and Aadhaar. Meeting the bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility conditions on paper is only half the task; the file has to be complete on the day of counselling.

Why is physiotherapy in demand at all?

A closer look at the industry shows that four separate pressures are pushing the same way.

Table 3: What is driving the demand

Pressure The figure What it means for a graduate Source
Too few physiotherapists 0.6 per 10,000 people in India, against a WHO minimum of 1.0 and about 7.2 in the United States The shortage is structural, not seasonal Chiratae Ventures analysis
Chronic pain Close to 35–40 crore Indians live with chronic musculoskeletal pain A patient base measured in crores, not lakhs Chiratae Ventures analysis
An ageing country The elderly population is growing at 41% a decade and will cross 20% of India by 2050. Those aged 80 and above grow about 279% between 2022 and 2050 Geriatric rehabilitation becomes a full career, not a side interest UNFPA India Ageing Report 2023
A growing market India’s physiotherapy market was about USD 1 billion in 2022 and is projected at USD 1.9 billion by 2030, a CAGR of 8.85% Roughly ₹9,600 crore growing towards ₹18,240 crore at ₹96 to the dollar Chiratae Ventures analysis

There is one more number worth watching. The digital musculoskeletal segment — app-guided and video-guided rehabilitation — is projected to grow at 23.5% a year and reach about USD 750 million, roughly ₹7,200 crore, by 2032. That is where several of the newer jobs sit.

What career paths you can explore after the BPT course

One question that often comes up is whether a physiotherapy career means a hospital job and nothing else. It does not. The fifteen paths below are all open to a BPT graduate, some straight after the internship and some after a master’s.

Table 4: Fifteen career paths after BPT, with published pay

# Career path What the work involves Published salary in India
1 Hospital physiotherapist Ward and outpatient rehabilitation across departments Average about ₹3,04,392 a year
2 Orthopaedic physiotherapist Recovery after fractures, joint replacement and spine surgery Within the ₹3–7 LPA general band
3 Neurological physiotherapist Stroke, spinal injury, Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy Average about ₹3,10,679 a year; ₹5–8 lakh after MPT Neurology
4 Sports physiotherapist Injury prevention and return-to-play work with athletes and teams Average about ₹5,95,976 a year — the highest-paid role listed
5 Cardiopulmonary and ICU physiotherapist Chest physiotherapy, weaning support and post-cardiac rehabilitation Within the ₹3–7 LPA general band
6 Paediatric physiotherapist Developmental delay, cerebral palsy and childhood mobility problems Within the ₹3–7 LPA general band
7 Geriatric physiotherapist Balance, falls prevention and mobility for older patients Within the ₹3–7 LPA general band
8 Women’s health physiotherapist Antenatal and postnatal care, pelvic floor rehabilitation Within the ₹3–7 LPA general band
9 Private clinic owner Running an independent practice Earnings depend on footfall, not on a salary band
10 Home-care and community physiotherapist Treating patients who cannot travel to a clinic Usually billed per visit
11 Corporate and ergonomics consultant Posture, workstation design and injury prevention in offices and factories Varies by employer and contract
12 Defence and government service Rehabilitating service personnel; posts in government hospitals About ₹5,50,000 a year in defence establishments; government entry at Pay Level 6
13 Lecturer and researcher Teaching BPT and MPT students; clinical research Depends on the institution and qualification
14 Rehabilitation centres, NGOs and disability services Long-term rehabilitation and community disability programmes Varies by organisation
15 Tele-rehabilitation and health-tech roles App-guided programmes, remote assessment and clinical content A segment growing about 23.5% a year

Osteopathy is a related route some graduates take, with published earnings of about ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh a year. Working abroad is another, though every country applies its own registration test.

What does a physiotherapist actually earn as the years pass?

Table 5: Pay by experience, private against government

Stage Private sector Government hospitals Source
Fresher, 0–2 years ₹15,000–25,000 a month, or ₹2–3 LPA ₹45,000–60,000 a month at Pay Level 6 Emversity salary guide, 2026
3–6 years ₹45,000–60,000 a month, or ₹4.5–6 LPA ₹55,000–75,000 a month at Pay Level 7 Emversity salary guide, 2026
6–10 years ₹60,000–85,000 a month, or ₹6–9 LPA ₹55,000–80,000 a month Emversity salary guide, 2026
10 years and above ₹85,000–1,20,000+ a month, or ₹14–20+ LPA ₹80,000–1.2 lakh+ a month Emversity salary guide, 2026

The first two years are the hard ones, and no honest article should pretend otherwise. Private starting pay of ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month is modest. The figures climb steeply for those who specialise, and the government route starts far higher than the private one.

Where should a student study? Comparing bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility and fees across Hyderabad

There is a general notion that South India is quite ahead of others in this particular field with the emergence of a multitude of tech giants offering a plethora of job opportunities. Fathoming the consequence of this fact, private universities have expanded their infrastructure and facilities to attract students from different regions to study physiotherapy and explore the possibilities.

Not everyone is aware that most of the well-known private universities around the city do not teach physiotherapy at all.

Table 6: Who actually runs a BPT course in and around Hyderabad

Institution Runs BPT? Note
MNR University, Sangareddy Yes School of Allied and Healthcare Sciences, with MPT routes on the same campus
Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences Yes The state health sciences university; conducts BPT counselling in Telangana
Malla Reddy University Yes BPT offered under its health sciences stream
CMR Institute of Medical Sciences Yes BPT offered alongside medical programmes
BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus No Engineering, sciences and pharmacy only
Mahindra University No Engineering, management and allied disciplines
Woxsen University No Technology, business and design
VNR VJIET and Vasavi College of Engineering No Engineering colleges affiliated to JNTUH
Anurag University Partly Runs Pharmacy, Nursing and allied health; check the current year for a BPT intake

How do the fees compare?

CMR Institute of Medical Sciences Not listed separately About ₹1,80,000 Collegedunia BPT listing

Fee listings on third-party portals and the figure on a university’s own page often differ. The university’s own page is the one to trust, and the one to check before paying.

Why do students look at MNR University for the BPT course in Hyderabad?

From a student’s perspective, three things separate the BPT course at MNR University from a standalone physiotherapy college.

The first is the hospital. MNR University sits inside the MNR Higher Education and Research Academy at Sangareddy, an 85-acre campus shared with MNR Medical College & Hospital and its 760-bed teaching hospital, staffed by around 350 doctors. A physiotherapy student learns by treating patients under supervision, and a campus with a working hospital on it does not have to send students elsewhere for that.

The second is what comes after the degree. MNR University runs four Master of Physiotherapy routes — Sports Science, Orthopaedics, Neurology, and Cardiovascular and Pulmonary — at ₹1,20,000 to ₹1,50,000 a year. Since specialisation is where physiotherapy pay actually rises, a student can plan the next step on the same campus.

The third is cost support. The university offers merit scholarships of up to a 40% tuition fee waiver for its Allied and Healthcare Sciences programmes, awarded after document and score verification.

Table 8: The BPT and MPT ladder at MNR University

Programme Duration Annual tuition Source
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) 5 years as listed on the official fee page ₹2,00,000 MNR University official fee page
MPT in Sports Science 2 years ₹1,50,000 MNR University official fee page
MPT (Orthopaedics) 2 years ₹1,20,000 MNR University official fee page
MPT (Neurology) 2 years ₹1,20,000 MNR University official fee page
MPT (Cardiovascular and Pulmonary) 2 years ₹1,20,000 MNR University official fee page

The wider university carries a 50+ year legacy in education, a Gold Sustainable Campus recognition, and academic collaborations with six universities in the United States. It is also the first university in Telangana accredited by the Data Science Council of America, though that accreditation covers its data science and AI programmes rather than physiotherapy.

Table 9: What the BPT fee actually covers at MNR University

Fee head Amount When it is paid
Application fee ₹1,500 One time, non-refundable
Admission confirmation fee ₹15,000 One time, non-refundable
Tuition fee ₹1,00,000 per semester Every semester across 10 semesters
Semester total, 1st and 2nd ₹1,09,000 Includes university, examination, IT, sports and library services
Semester total, 3rd to 8th ₹1,14,000 Adds career development services
Semester total, 9th and 10th ₹1,19,000 Adds convocation
Hostel and mess ₹40,000 to ₹1,63,500 per six-month instalment By room category, with a 5% annual escalation
Transport ₹26,000 to ₹45,000 per six months By route

A closing word for students and parents

Ask any experienced professional in the field, and they will tell you the same thing. Physiotherapy pays slowly at the start and well later, and the people who reach the later part are the ones who chose a specialisation and stayed with it.

It would not be wrong to say that the shortage of physiotherapists in India is the strongest argument for the course. A country with 0.6 physiotherapists per 10,000 people, 35 to 40 crore adults in chronic pain, and an elderly population growing at 41% a decade is not going to run out of work for them.

For families checking the bachelor of physiotherapy eligibility rules for 2026, the entry bar is a pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, around 45–50% in aggregate, and seventeen years of age. The harder question is not whether a student qualifies. It is whether the college puts them in front of real patients early enough, and whether the specialisation they want is available when they are ready for it.
