Ask a laboratory graduate what they remember from their final year and the answer is rarely the syllabus as it is usually one sample. The one that came back wrong twice, then came back right on the third run and nobody in the room could say why. The itch has a name called research.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Ph.D. in Medical Laboratory Science is a doctoral research degree for people who want to study disease at the level of the sample itself. The work sits in clinical pathology, molecular diagnostics, medical microbiology and laboratory diagnostics. An original thesis is then defended in front of external examiners. Under the UGC Ph.D. Regulations, 2022, it runs for a minimum of two years excluding course work, with six years as the outer limit. Entry asks for a relevant master’s degree carrying at least 55 per cent marks, plus either a UGC-NET score or a pass in the university’s own entrance test.<\/span><\/p>\n
